This and the next entry give a nod to something I was reminded of in some recent reading:
Gothic Rock, as it grew out of the culture of the mid-late 1970s. We already have quite of few examples of that subgenere in this topic, but consider this entry "historical background".
Bauhaus was (apparently) the originator of Goth Rock. Their 1979 single,
Bela Lugosi's Dead, is largely recognized as
the first Gothic Rock record, although it didn't chart (beyond Indie). Bauhaus were not hugely successful in a commercial sense
