Smile SOLVED: Need an expert for an obscure 70s lyric (Annabella/Arrabella)

When I was a kid in the UK there was a song on the radio around 1970 that they played alot and I can remember the melody and lyrics but for 30 years I have been trying to find the name of it and now every time I hear it in my head it bugs me more.

PLEASE restore my sanity and tell me if you know the artist or title. Here are bits of the lyrics I can remember. This is going to need a real expert. Cheers

Just so I could be alone with Annabella..................many times I tried I couldn't keep it all inside...........Oh Annabella(Arrabella?), there is something in your eyes that makes me want you......... I can't believe she's coming home ....she didn't write but she telephoned etc......

I'm coming up with Long John Baldry, who I believe was in a band with Elton John in the late 60's, before the Bernie Taupin days. The song title is subtitled with "Annabella", but the actual title is something else.

I'm going to let Atmaster take it from here!!
    Oh Stewardess..........I speak jive.

Gave it my best shot but I do not have any other suggestions and I can not find the lyrics to Baldry's "Annabella".

Thanks for your quick replies folks, this is a great forum.
I had a listen to Annabella (Who Flies To Me When She's Lonely) by Baldry and unfortunately that is not the song. I am still hoping someone out there will know.

My next wild guess is "Annabella" by Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds (1971)
(only a partial match on the lyrics)

    I've seen you, Annabella,
    Moving softly through my mind.
    And the vision stays,
Through my nights and lonely days.

    Annabella, I'm coming home.
I should have known I'd need you so.
    Annabella you've been so true
    I know.

    I've seen you Annabella
Down the inroads of my soul.
    How can I be free?
You've become a part of me.

    Annabella, I'm coming home
I should have known I'd need you so.
    Annabella you've been so true
    I know.

    I've been, oh, so wrong.
And I've been gone too long.
Away from the arms that reach out for me.
Away from the love I know to be in you.

    Annabella, I'm coming home,
I should have known I'd need you so.
    Annabella, I'm coming home,
I should have known I'd need you so.
    Annabella, I'm coming home,
I should have known I'd need you so.

I had a similar problem. Several weeks passed with no resolution. Finally, I "doo, doo, dooed" the tune into a microphone, saved the file, uploaded it to one those "upload/download services (free), posted the file to a music forum along with my question and presto, solved in minutes. If you know the tune or a part other people may be familiar with, you might want to give it a try. The described process is much simpler than it sounds.

Thanks Atmaster I checked that one and it is a similar content but not a match.
This song that I am after was getting heavy airplay in the UK in the early 70s. The fact that i can remember the whole melody and quite a few lyrics means it was played on a regular basis and was probably on the top 40. The singer was middle - of the-roadish not as bluesy as Baldry, more like the guy from the Hollies and quite likely a British singer. It must have been a known group as the production values were very high, orchestra etc. I have remebered a few more lyrics

Just so I could be alone with Annabella, many times I've tried I couldn't keep it all inside, Just so I could be alone with Annabella...................It makes me feel so funny inside, a feeling that I can't hide, I can't believe she's coming home ah ah ah ah etc

    All the best

    Default Me too

I actually joined the site today, as I was trying to find this song and then hopefully download it elsewhere.

The bit that I remember is:

    Smiling just for show

And hope that everyone will go

So that I can be alone with Arrabela (but could easily be Annabella)

Oh, Arrabella, there is somethig in your eyes that make me want you.

Oh, Arrabella, there is something in your eyes that makes me feel so funny inside

    A feeling that I can't hide

    I can't believe she's coming home

    Ahhh Ahhh Ahh Ahh

She didn't right but she telephoned........................................ ...

More than that I can't recall, but I would deeply love to find it somewhere.

I have part of the song on a cassette from when I was a schoolboy and I used to record stuff from Radio 1, especially during the summer holidays. This song, which I think is called simply Annabella, was definitely played on Radio 1 at lunchtime in the first week of September, 1973. It is called Annabella and it is a very melodic song and the singer has a gentle, smooth type of voice, unlike Long John Baldry. The part I have, which you can have if you want is this:

    Piano intro...
Smiling just for show and hoping everyone would go
So that I could be alone with Annabella
Nobody can tell, I think I hide it very well
It's been so long since I last saw Annabella

I believe you are looking for the' Annabella' done by John Walker( from the Walker Brothers)..lyrics not found.

Pretty sure it isn't John Walker, though I know he had a hit with the same girls name. His voice is nothing like this singer, and also it's 6 years too early. This song is definitely from summer 1973 and it didn't make the charts. Like I said, I can easily put the 30 seconds I have onto a cd for you, which could help you track it down. I don't want anything for it. It's a good song - I was trying to find the artist myself, that's how I came upon this forum.

A few posts up Brazzo offered Dave Dee as the artist who recorded " Annabella". I have found he did record a song of this title, but have been unable to hear it anywhere or find the lyrics to confirm this.

Oh, Arrabella, there is somethig in your eyes that make me want you.

    FYI

To minimize some confusion (at least on my part), I modified this "Annabelle/Arabelle" thread and moved the "Balcony" and the "I'm a Gambler" requests to separate postings.

The "I'm a Gambler" thread is now shown as "Solved".

    http://www.allthelyrics.com/forum/id...a-gambler.html

Hopefully the "Balcony" request will get better exposure and a faster response in its separate thread.

In the future, please start new threads for different song requests.

    Hauntboy,

Did you checkout the suggestion by Musicismyfirstlove for Daniel Boone's song, "Annabelle"?

In the only video I can find, the artist is singing in German. A webpage that has a link to the Youtube video also supposedly has the English version of the lyrics on a scroll bar (see attached link). While I don't speak German, I am not convinced that the "English" lyrics are correct. I cannot find any other source to verify the lyrics.

Naah ... the lyrics of the Boone song don't really match. If needed I can provide a literal translation. they have probably changed things in the German version to match the rythm.
