Vocabulary - Greek expressions

This is a thread with Greek words, expressions and their meanings. I'll try to write as much as I can and remember. When I have time I'll expand it. For the moment this thread is closed, when I finish with all the letters I'll open it and then you can ask anything you want.

αβγό=egg
~ σιγά τ' αβγά - we use it to declare that something isn't important
~ κάτσε στ' αβγά σου [=sit on your eggs] - we say it when somebody is involved in someone else's business, behave well
~ αβγά σου καθαρίζουν; - we say it when somebody laughs without any obvious reason
~ ακόμη δε βγήκες απ' το αβγό σου - we say it when a kid behaves as if he knows everything while he hasn't experienced anything in his life yet
άβυσσος=abyss
~ στο χείλος της αβύσσου - just a bit before the destruction
άγαλμα=statue
~ αφήνω [κπ] άγαλμα - we say it when somebody is very surprised and he stays still
αγάπη=love

~ αγνή ψυχή - we say it when a person is very good

~ αγρόν ηγόραζα - we say it when someone is busy with insignificant issues and he ignores the important ones
~ πουλώ και αγοράζω [κπ] - when somebody guides the others, he does with them whatever he wants
αγοραφοβία=the fear of the crowded places [I have agoraphobia ]
αγύριστος=not returned [object]
~ στον αγύριστο! - go to hell!, Get lost!, Go away and don't come back!
~ αγύριστο κεφάλι - a stubborn person
αέρας=air
~ αλλάζω τον αέρα μου - I go somewhere else [I travel] to get some rest and see something different
~ παίρνουν τα μυαλά μου αέρα - I think that I'm better than I really am, I become arrogant
~ λόγια του αέρα - words without importance, drivel
αθώος=innocent
~ αθώα περιστερά - somebody who pretends to be innocent
αθωώνω=to acquit sb
αίμα=blood
~ βράζει το αίμα μου - I'm full of life and energy
~ πίνω το αίμα κπ - I exploit sb without any mercy
~ δίνω το αίμα μου για κπ - I sacrifice myself, I do everything for sb else
~ φτύνω αίμα - we say it when something troubles us very much
~ παγώνει το αίμα μου - I get scared
~ μου κόψες το αίμα - you scared me to death
~ πνίγομαι στο αίμα - I'm bleeding very much
~ παίρνω το αίμα μου πίσω - I take revenge
~ το 'χω στο αίμα μου - it's in my dna
~ σιγά τα αίματα! - what a big deal!, we say it when we want to lessen the importance of something

ακούω=to hear
αλεπού=fox
~ πονηρή αλεπού - we call like this a cunning person
~ όσα δε φτάνει η αλεπού... - we say it when somebody says that smth doesn't deserve the trouble and in reality he can't do it
αλήθεια=truth
~ η μαύρη/πικρή αλήθεια - when the truth hurts, but however we have to tell it
αλλάζω=to change
~ αλλάζω γνώμη/άποψη - I change my mind
~ αλλάζω/γυρίζω σελίδα - I totally change my life and begin from the beginning
άλογο=horse, something without reason
~ πράσινα άλογα [=green horses ] - something which isn't true, without any reason, exaggeration
άλφα=a, the first letter of the Greek alphabet
~ άλφα άλφα - something of very good quality
~ το άλφα και το ωμέγα - the beginning and the ending of smth
ανάβω=to light
~ ανάβουν τα αίματα - they get really angry and quarrel
~ μου ανάβουν τα λαμπάκια - I get on my nerves
~ την ανάβω σε κπ - I shoot sb
~ ανάβω φωτιές - I cause trouble
αναπνέω=to breathe
αναπνοή=breath
~ κρατώ την αναπνοή μου - I hold my breath, I don't breath for a while [we also say it when we expect to hear great/important news]
~ σε απόσταση αναπνοής - very close, small distance
~ μου κόβεται η αναπνοή - I stop breathing for a while cause of health problems or terror or perhaps surprise
ανάποδα=upside down, backwards, inside out
~ παίρνω ανάποδες - I get on my nerves
~ ξυπνώ ανάποδα - I wake up with bad mood
~ παίρνω κάτι απ' την ανάποδη - I misunderstand smth
~ ξέρω κάτι απ' την καλή κι απ' την ανάποδη - I know smth very well
ανάσα=breath [same with αναπνοή]
ανασαίνω=to breathe
άνδρας and άντρας=man
ανεβαίνω=to go up, to rise
~ μου ανεβαίνει το αίμα στο κεφάλι - I get very angry
άνεμος=wind
~ μιλάμε περί ανέμων και υδάτων - we have a light chat about everything and nothing in particular
~ είμαι όπου φυσάει ο άνεμος - I'm not a stable person

άνεση=comfort, convenience
