    Default Pleasee help.

    Hi friends,

I just discovered amazing Turkish singer namely Omer Zulfu Livaneli. He is amazing i do not understand but i like it very much.

I would be really grateful if you would translate some of his songs.

I have 4 favorites. They are "Sevdali Basim", "Memleket Kokulu Yarim", "Atlinin Turkusu" and "Ege"

    Sevdali Basim

    Ah benim sevdalı başım
    Ah benim şair telaşım
    Ah benim sarhoşluğum
    Ah çılgın yüreğim
    Sus artık uslandır beni

    Kaç okyanus geçtim böyle
    Kaç denizde yitip gittim
    Kırılmış direkler yırtık yelkenlerle
    Kaç seferden yorgun döndüm

    Ah benim yaralı ruhum
    Ah benim insan kusurum
    Ah benim isyanlarım, ah yalnızlıklarım
    Gel artık uslandır beni

    Ah benim iyimser yanım
    Ah benim aldanışlarım
    Ah benim kavgalarım
    Ah pişmanlıklarım
    Sus artık uslandır beni

    Memleket Kokulu Yarim:

Deniz bile acı çeker ah agapimou
    Gözlerinden yaşlar döker
Benim bu derdim gizli kalmaz sevdiğim
    Figan ile başımdan tüter

    Kara gözlerine hayran olduğum
    Memleket kokulu yarim
    Kırık dillerine meftun olduğum
    Saçına gül takılı yarim

Deniz bile şahit olmazsa ah agapimou
    Başka kim olur derdime
    Memleket hasreti öyle bastı sevdiğim
    Bıçaklar saplandı yüreğime

    Kara gözlerine, kara gözlerine

    Kayıklar kıyıdan ayrılırken ah agapimou
    Sanki canım tenimden ayrıldı
Bir de baktım sevdiğim bizim dağlarımızdan
    Masmavi bir kuş havalandı

    Kara gözlerine, kara gözlerine

    Atlinin turkusu:

    Ay kocaman at kara
    Torbamda zeytin kara
    Bilirim de yolların
    Varamam kordobaya

    Ova geçti yel geçti
    Ay kırmızı at kara
    Ölüm gözler yolumu
    Kordoba sularında

    Yola baktım yol uzun
    Canım atım yaman atım
    Etme eyleme ölüm
    Varmadan kordobaya

    Ege:

I can not find it's words i do not know the reason. However you can find http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkAbwfWfEcA..

    Thank you for your helping.

    Best Regards

    Here is your last song:

    THE AEGEAN

Haydi dostum çık yola – Come on my friend, off you go
Kır dümeni Ege'ye doğru – Go away to the Aegean*
Haydi dostum, çık yola – Come on my friend, off you go
Kekik ve zeytin dağlarına – To the mountains of thyme and olive

Haydi dostum, çık yola – Come on my friend, off you go
Itır kokan akşamlara – To the evenings which smell like fragrance
Haydi dostum, çık yola – Come on my friend, off you go
Yarım kalan sevdalara – To incomplete loves

Ah Ege, canım Ege! – O the Aegean, my dear Aegean!
Ey şarap rengi deniz! – O the wine-coloured sea!
Ah Ege, bizim Ege! – O the Aegean, our Aegean!
Bu akşam seninleyiz – We are with you tonight

Ah Ege, canım Ege! – O the Aegean, my dear Aegean!
Ey gümüş rengi deniz! – O the silver-coloured sea!
Ah Ege, bizim Ege! – O the Aegean, our Aegean
Bu akşam seninleyiz – We are with you tonight

Bir zeybek diz vurunca – When zeibeks slam their knees**
Bütün yürekler titrer – All the hearts get touched
Bir zeybek diz vurunca – When a zeibek slams his knee
Bütün ovalar titrer – All the plains quake

Her kalenin önünde – In front of every castle
Bizim efeler bekler – Our zeibeks keep guard
Her kalenin önünde – In front of every castle
Yiğit efeler bekler – The brave zeibeks keep guard

*: By "Aegean" he means both the Aegean sea and the Aegean region.
**: For further information about Zeibeks: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zeibeks . The dance Zeibeks do is also called Zeybek and it's a very nice dance, slow and harsh movements are made, so they slam their knees on the ground. The song refers to that.

Atlının Türküsü - THE SONG OF THE HORSEMAN

Ay kocaman at kara - The moon is huge, the horse is black
Torbamda zeytin kara - The olives in my bag are black
Bilirim de yolların' - I know how to go there
    Varamam Cordoba'ya -But I can't reach Cordoba*

Ova geçti yel geçti - The plain passed, the wind passed
Ay kırmızı at kara - The moon is red, the horse is black
Ölüm gözler yolumu - Death awaits me
    Kordoba sularında - Around Cordoba

Yola baktım yol uzun - I looked at the road, the road is long
Canım atım yaman atım - My dear horse, my strong horse
Etme eyleme ölüm - Please don't die
    Varmadan Cordoba'ya - Before I reach Cordoba

*: Cordoba is a city in Spain. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C%C3%B3rdoba,_Andalusia The Turkish lyrics are already the translation of a Spanish poem, written by Federico Garcia Lorca. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federico_Garc%C3%ADa_Lorca

Memleket Kokulu Yarim - MY DARLING WHO SMELLS LIKE MY HOMETOWN

Deniz bile acı çeker ah agapimou - Even the sea suffers, ah agapi mou*
Gözlerinden yaşlar döker - Drops tears from its eyes
Benim bu derdim gizli kalmaz sevdiğim - This sorrow of mine can't be kept secret, my love
Figan ile başımdan tüter - It shows itself with a moaning through my head

Kara gözlerine hayran olduğum - O the one, whose black eyes I adore
Memleket kokulu yarim - My darling who smells like my hometown**
Kırık dillerine meftun olduğum - O the one whose accented tongue I'm enchanted by
Saçına gül takılı yarim - My darling who has a rose amongst her hair

Deniz bile şahit olmazsa ah agapimou - If even the sea doesn't witness my sorrow, o agapi mou
Başka kim olur derdime - Who else will?
Memleket hasreti öyle bastı sevdiğim - My longing for my hometown just showed itself up heavily
Bıçaklar saplandı yüreğime - And I was stabbed on my heart with knives

Kara gözlerine hayran olduğum - O the one, whose black eyes I adore
Memleket kokulu yarim - My darling who smells like my hometown**
Kırık dillerine meftun olduğum - O the one I am enchanted by whose accented tongue
Saçına gül takılı yarim - My darling who has a rose amongst her hair

Kayıklar kıyıdan ayrılırken ah agapimou - When the boats were leaving the shore, o agapi mou
Sanki canım tenimden ayrıldı - It felt like my soul left my flesh
Bir de baktım sevdiğim bizim dağlarımızdan - And then I saw that, o my love
Masmavi bir kuş havalandı - A deep blue bird rose in the air from our mountains

Kara gözlerine hayran olduğum - O the one, whose black eyes I adore
Memleket kokulu yarim - My darling who smells like my hometown**
Kırık dillerine meftun olduğum - O the one I am enchanted by whose accented tongue
Saçına gül takılı yarim - My darling who has a rose amongst her hair

*: Agapi mou means "my love" in the Greek language. (αγάπη μου)
**: After the World War I, a population exchange happened between Greece and Turkey. The Turks who lived on the Greek soil were forced to leave there and come to Turkey, and vice versa, the Greeks who lived on the Turkish soil were forced to leave here and go to Greece. It's something both countries should be ashamed of. So basically this song is about the love of a Turkish man and a Greek woman, who had to get seperated because of some political nonsense.

Sevdalı Başım – MY LOVESICK BEING

Ah benim sevdalı başım – Ah my lovesick being*
Ah benim şair telaşım – Ah my poetical rush
Ah benim sarhoşluğum – Ah my drunkness
Ah çılgın yüreğim – Ah my crazy heart
Sus artık uslandır beni – Hush already, calm me down

Kaç okyanus geçtim böyle – How many oceans have I passed through?
Kaç denizde yitip gittim – In how many seas have I been wasted?
Kırılmış direkler yırtık yelkenlerle – With broken masts and torn sheets
Kaç seferden yorgun döndüm – From how many navigations have I returned tiredly?

Ah benim yaralı ruhum – Ah my wounded soul
Ah benim insan kusurum – Ah my humane flaw
Ah benim isyanlarım, ah yalnızlıklarım – Ah my rebellions, ah my lonelinesses
Gel artık uslandır beni – Come already, calm me down

Ah benim iyimser yanım – Ah my optimistic side
Ah benim aldanışlarım – Ah my befoolings
Ah benim kavgalarım – Ah my fights
Ah pişmanlıklarım – Ah my regrets
Sus artık uslandır beni – Hush already, calm me down

*: Literally he uses the word "my lovesick head" but I thought it sounds weird in English. So I made it being.
