    Sounds like 30's-50's, drama/romance/thriller along the lines of Casablanca (1942) or a movie with swords scene/chase such as The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938).
    Can't say anything more than that it sounds familiar, I've seen more movies than most ppl alive and they do strike a cord but I can't remember from where I'm afraid.

    Of course it could also be a movie such as Young Frankenstein (1974) or Ivanhoe (not seen the 1952 version, so i mean the 1982 version).
