ahh i see, this is what i meant: is there a difference in vowel sounds between the letters "и" and "i" in ukrainian? you can refer to english, bulgarian, serbo-croatian and bulgarian if that helps in explaining it, if such variants exist in those language's orthographies

Yes, there is a difference between Ukrainian "і" and "и" . Ukrainian letter "и" sounds like English vowel [i ] in such words as "sit", "this" when "і" sounds like English [i:] in such words as "meet", "feet" etc.

I have to make some corrections
According to defferent standarts (ISO-9-1995, GOST 16876-75, Library of Congress Slavic (Russian) Transliteration) ukrainian letter "и" as far as russian "ы" indicates like "y". In bulgarian alphabet you cannot find "ы" letter
You can (if you have that song by Dima Bilan) clearly hear this sound in words:

ahh yeah i know that sound - a bit like pronouncing it with a w as in

okay time for another question: have any of you guys heard of Accia Axat or Aleno Vysotskaya aka Dusha? if so, i was wondering how big they were in their respective countries i.e. are they little known or major stars? its just very difficult to know if you dont live there or have a good grasp of the current music trends in russia/ukraine, and i was curious

They are not big stars at all.
Actually their popularity in Ukraine falls down.

I just purchased a CD of Ukrainian songs by Rusnichok, The Nightingales of Ukraine, from CD Baby, and there's one song on it I've been searching for the lyrics online without much luck. You seem pretty fluent in all the languages of interest, in this case English, Russian, & Ukrainian. I can read and pronounce the cyrillic alphabet reasonably well, and I know of the differences between the Ukrainian and Russian alphabets. Can you please post the song lyrics for The Wild Gooses (Geese?) Were Flying, in Ukrainian (and/or Russian), Transliterated Ukrainian (and/or Russian), & English please? Thank you for any help.

But no one on that other thread knows Ukrainian, so I suggested he post it on this thread, but he hasn't. I looked up the song, and I liked it, so I'm asking instead.
