Hello! I am looking for the translation of Dimitris`s Mpasis Song Ta Xamopoulia. Can somebody translate it if he can.Thank you in advance
just lyrics from me
Here's a rough translation...
When nightfalls on the sky
The "lostbirds" fly
And it’s a unsupported sorrow
to their eyes the sequins
Small are the dreams on land
The hardships great
And the gods never thought
to build a staircase
God and Bouda and Allah
neither the "lostbirds"
They didn’t account for them and ax
they’re jealous of the sequins
Small bitter and erotic
Tonight the song
A small complaint I will say it as
The souls fledgeling.
I'm curious about the history of this song. Does anyone know how old it is? I'm guessing early 20th or maybe late 19th century? Perhaps even older?
Also what is the meaning of the sequins, as in "στα μάτια τους η Πούλια to their eyes the sequins"?
Thanks in advance for any information that can be shared.
No, it's a pop song from the 1990s and Hristos Nikolopoulos the bouzouki player composed it.
Thanks to you both. For some reason it just sounded like an old song to me.
When I was growing up just about all the Greek songs we'd hear would make my mom roll her eyes and say, That song was so old when I was your age. I know a lot of them have staying power! I also like the way some of the older songs are souped up a bit to be more contemporary, which is something I really love about Greek music.
Many of the old songs, were the bases for young artists to compose new songs.
That's for your mom...

I remember this song from an Trio Bel Canto album, and I remember hearing it at Greek events. It's a good one, thanks!
Here is the song you requested for others to enjoy.
Gott zur Ehr, dem nächsten zur Wehr
What if they gave a fire and nobody came.
I like the way this guy does it, too. He and Basis both have great voices.

There's a good and old version from Duo Xarma (Ντούο Χάρμα in greek) also...
