This is a Finnish-style folk-song, about hard life, forlorn love and suicide.
This song is made in old four-verse repeating -style, and should be sung with angry voice.

(1) The name "Kouvostoliiton Laulu" is a pun about Kouvola and Soviet Union.

(2) Kouvola is a district in southeastern Finland, northeast of Helsinki.

(3) Kymi is as river, and Kymi valley is a river-valley within Kouvola district.

(4) Deep woods-have shady "primary forest" with large trees and little
undergrowth, but at shore-woods the sunlight coming over the water will
illuminate the ground under the trees. This will cause "secondary
forest" with thick brushwood and undergrowth. Clearing shore-woods into
fields is much harder than deep-woods.

(5) Kuusa rapids is a white-water rapids in Kymi river. Today the Kuusa
rapids contain hydroelectric plant.

(6) The traditional farmhouses in consist of "Pirtti" (large day-room
with kitchen) and one or more "Kammari" (sleeping chamber).

You got it right. The word "Säk." is shortened version of "Säkeistö", or "verse".
