if u post the lyrics ill do it^^

Her name is Nena Kerner, not Nena Hagens and here is a translation done by myself
If you have some time for me
Then I will sing a song for you
About ninety-nine balloons
On their way to the horizon
If you maybe think just of me
Then I will sing a song for you
About ninety-nine balloons
And that such a thing comes from such a thing
Ninety-nine balloons
On their way to the horizon
One could take them for UFOs from space
Therefore a general sent
A flying squadron after them
To give the alarm if it was so
There were present on the horizon
Only ninety-nine balloons
Ninety-nine jet fighters
Each was a great warrior
They regarded themselves as Captain Kirk
There was a great display of fireworks
The neighbors didn't understand
And soon felt offended
And in the process they shot at the horizon
At ninety-nine balloons
Ninety-nine ministers of war
Matches and petrol cans (gasoline cans)
They regarded themselves as clever people
Already on the scent of fat quarry
They shouted "War" and wanted power
Man, who would have thought
That someday it would come as far as this
Because of ninety-nine balloons
Ninety-nine years of war
Left no place for victors
There are no longer any ministers of war
And also no jet fighters
Today i'm making my rounds
I see the world lying in ruins
I have found a balloon
I think of you and let it fly
English lyrics are as follow:
You and I and a little toy shop, buy a bag of balloons with the money we've got.
Set them free at the break of dawn, 'til one by one, they were gone.
Back at base, bugs in the software flash the message, "Something's out there."
Floating in the summer sky, ninety-nine red balloons go by.
Ninety-nine red balloons, floating in the summer sky.
Panic lads, it's a red alert, there's something here from somewhere else.
The war machine springs to life, opens up one eager eye.
Focusing it on the sky, ninety-nine red balloons go by.
Ninety-nine Decision Street, ninety-nine ministers meet.
To worry, worry, super-scurry, call the troops out in a hurry.
This is what we've waiting for, this is it boys, this is war.
The president is on the line as ninety-nine red balloons go by.
Ninety-nine knights of the air, riding super-high-tech jet fighters.
Everyone's a super hero, everyone's a Captain Kirk.
With orders to identify, to clarify and classify.
Scrambling in the summer sky, as ninety-nine red balloons go by.
Ninety-nine red balloons go by.
Ninety-nine dreams I have had, every one a red ballon.
Now it's all over and I'm standin' pretty, in this dust that was a city.
If I could find a souvenir, just to prove the world was here...
And here is a red balloon, I think of you and let it go.
And the German text...
Hast du etwas Zeit für mich
Dann singe ich ein Lied für dich
Von 99 Luftballons
Auf ihrem Weg zum Horizont
Denkst du vielleicht grad an mich
Dann singe ich ein Lied für dich
Von 99 Luftballons
Und dass sowas von sowas kommt
99 Luftballons
Auf ihrem Weg zum Horizont
Hielt man für UFOs aus dem All
Darum schickte ein General
'ne Fliegerstaffel hinterher
Alarm zu geben, wenn's so wär
Dabei war'n dort am Horizont
Nur 99 Luftballons
99 Düsenflieger
Jeder war ein großer Krieger
Hielten sich für Captain Kirk
Das gab ein großes Feuerwerk
Die Nachbarn haben nichts gerafft
Und fühlten sich gleich angemacht
Dabei schoss man am Horizont
Auf 99 Luftballons
99 Kriegsminister
Streichholz und Benzinkanister
Hielten sich für schlaue Leute
Witterten schon fette Beute
Riefen: "Krieg!" und wollten Macht
Mann, wer hätte das gedacht
Dass es einmal so weit kommt
Wegen 99 Luftballons
Wegen 99 Luftballons
99 Luftballons
99 Jahre Krieg
Ließen keinen Platz für Sieger
Kriegsminister gibt's nicht mehr
Und auch keine Düsenflieger
Heute zieh ich meine Runden
Seh die Welt in Trümmern liegen
Hab 'n Luftballon gefunden
Denk an dich und lass ihn fliegen
“If cats looked like frogs we'd realize what nasty, cruel little bastards they are. Style. That's what people remember.” ― Terry Pratchett.
I am slowly learning German. I have a few questions. The German lyrics provided by citlalli match up almost exactly to the ones I found at http://german.about.com/library/blmus_nena99luftb.htm
My main question is about the contractions, which I rarely see when I read standard German text.
g'rad is contracted in the alternate text I found:
This would be gerade, I assume.Denkst du vielleicht g'rad an mich
Could someone confirm these others:
'ne Fliegerstaffel hinterher
Dabei war'n da am Horizont
Heute zieh' ich meine Runden
I'm not a native speaker but these come from typical ways of speaking.
You're right, grad is typically short for gerade.
'ne Fliegerstaffel hinterher: A (eine) flying squadron after (them, the 99 Balloons). (Fliegerstaffel is feminine)
It is common when speaking to shorten einer, eine, eines etc to 'ner, 'ne etc.
Dabei war'n da am Horizont: Looks like waren to me. The balloons were..
Heute zieh' ich meine Runden: ziehe ich...
Incidentally, there is an english translation in that link.
Gott zur Ehr, dem nächsten zur Wehr
What if they gave a fire and nobody came.
Steve, you are right! :-)
Thanks, Steve.
And I should correct myself: I see a lot of prepositional contractions when I read German.
