Red face "Du" lyrics by Martin Suter for Stephan Eicher's L'Envolée (2012)

    Hello everyone,

My German is enough to catch the overall meaning of this lovely song, but I'd love to be able to grasp its meaning better. I'd very much appreciate your help.

    Du

    Näbu uf em See
    Riife i de Bäum
    Raabe uf em Fäud
    Du i mine Träum
    Räge uf em Dach
    Ässe uf em Füür
    Rote i mim Glas
    U du a mire Tür

    Rusche i de Zweig
    Wuouche über …
    Glungge uf em Wäg
Und du u a mire hand
    Summe i dr Luft
    Sunne uf em Schtäg
    Schpatze im Gebüsch

    Du i mine Täg
    i mine Täg

    Näbu uf em See
    Räge uf em Dach
    Rusche i de Zweig
    Summe idr Luft
    Du i mine Träum
    Du a mire Tüür
    Du a mire Hand
    Du i mine Täg

(The lyrics were taken from the internet here: http://www.songtextemania.com/du_son...an_eicher.html ) and although i could not find a single media link to the actual song, the text matches the music here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDqUoqa2RXg

    Thank you... =)

Where are you from? (just out of curiosity )

I gave it a try but it's not really good (I'm Austrian and I don't understand that much of Swiss German, unfortunately), but maybe there's someone from Switzerland around who could help us out.

    You

    Fog on the lake
    Frost in the trees
    Crows in the fields
    You in my dreams
    Rain falling onto the roof
    Food cooking on the fire
    Red wine in my glass
And you standing at my door

    A rustling in the twigs
    Wuouche über …?????
    Glungge uf em Wäg???????

You and me, hand in hand
A humming in the air [not sure if it's "Summen" or "Summer" ??]
    Sunshine on the jetty
    Sparrows in the bushes

    Haying you in my day,
    in my day

    My thoughts:

    Näbu uf em See
    Mist on the lake
    Räge uf em Dach
    Rain on the roof
    Rusche i de Zweig
    Rustling in the twig
    Summe idr Luft
    Summer in the air
    Du i mine Träum
    You in my dream
    Du a mire Tüür

    You by my door
    Du a mire Hand
    You at my hand
    Du i mine Täg
    You in my day

    Wuouche über …
    Wolken über...
    Cloudes overhead...

    Glungge uf em Wäg???????
    Pfütze auf dem Weg
    Puddles on the way (path)

I cannot lie, I had help with puddles.

Glad to help, that's what we do.

Yes, Swiss German takes some getting used to. But I like a lot of Swiss singers.
It's a lot harder to understand by listening, that's for sure. Lyrics help a lot.

Where did you learn German? Are you still in school? Have you been to Europe?

Almost done with (grad-)school for good, and I've been living in Europe for almost 15 years, now...

On the language question, I took an intensive year of German in Berlitz a while back, but it was right before moving for a long season to Dutch-speaking Europe. It suffices to say that most of my German became Dutch. It was quite cool, because the common root helped me pick up Dutch much faster, but now, although I can still understand German, whenever I try to speak it, Dutch gets in my way...
