My Friend The Chocolate Cake – Neighbourhood Watch lyrics

Album: My Friend The Chocolate Cake

It strikes me as sad, this community's way
of placing it's faith into Neighbourhood Watch.
Protecting our videos, saving our stereos
Keeping the jewellery all safe in the drawer.

But ask the same people to put in the effort,
assisting the homeless to break from the trap,
they'll scratch and they'll pause and they'll mutter some words
and keep doing nothing, nothing at all.

And out on the street where few people play
The old people sleep, they're away from the wind.
Ben Chiffley dreamed of a light on the hill,
I'm sure he'd be saddened by things like this

But ask the same people to put in the effort,
assisting the homeless to break from the trap,
they'll scratch and they'll pause and they'll mutter some words
and keep doing nothing, nothing at all.
