Wendy Wills – Rain Song lyrics

Album: Wendy Wills

The rain had never fallen
quite so hard before,
Up ahead they hear the distant river roar.
The coachman looks to the sky,
water drips along his spine
He turns around to face the man who sits behind him,
and shakes his head
The man inside the carriage,
he looks straight ahead
He holds a small, wrapped package
in between his hands
A drip of water slips along his brow
he curses God
He curses clouds above
Today's the day
the plans were laid so long ago
He shakes his head
She lies alone in the bedroom and she
holds a mirror in her hand and then she
rearranges all her ribbons and she says,
"Today's the day I waited for."
She smiles, "The plans were laid so long ago."
She says, "Yes. Today's the day, today's the day..."
She says, "Yes. Today's the day, today's the day..."
The coachman drops to the ground
The mud, it fills his boots up to the very top
The horses bristle with the sound of the wind,
he turns to face the man again
The horses take a few steps back
He shakes his head "No",
he shakes his head
The carriage door unlatches,
there is a sound
The man, now outside,
points to some far distant ground
The coachman watches
as he disappears into the trees
He turns and the sky begins to darken,
he shakes his head
The shadows lengthen in the bedroom and she
Wakes abruptly from some dark dream and she sees
The mirror fall onto the floorboards and she says
"I feel so strange and heavy."
She says "My hearts so strange, so heavy."
She says...
She says...
Oh, my God, she says,
"The plans were laid so long ago"
She says...
She says...
She says...
She says...
..."No."
